AcEDemy's Frequently Asked Questions
How do you edit/proofread work?
All documents must be supplied as Word documents (.doc or .docx). I edit or proofread on-screen using Microsoft Word’s track changes feature. All changes are highlighted, and the client is free to accept or reject changes as s/he prefers.
How much does editing cost?
I tailor each quote according to the level of work required. Proofreading ranges from £4.50 to £8 per 1,000 words, copy-editing ranges from £6 to £16 per 1,000 words, and a book critique starts from £75.
Who will be editing/proofreading my material?
I will proofread/edit your material. I do not have a pool of editors to whom I allocate work.
How can I get a quote?
Simply contact me for a no-obligation quote, letting me know:
- The total word count of the text (this must include footnotes/endnotes/bibliography if they are to be edited).
- The turnaround time you require, and the date on which you intend to send the document to be edited.
- Whether you want editing or proofreading (if you aren’t sure which you need, I can assess the text and let you know).
- An extract of the text – at least 1,000 words.
I aim to reply to all emails within 24 hours, but please allow a little extra time if you contact me over weekends or bank holidays.
If I have availability for the dates that you require, then I will be happy to provide a free sample edit so that you can see exactly how I can help you.
How do I pay?
For UK clients, project fees up to and including £200 must be paid in advance. Where a project fee exceeds £200, a project agreement will be written. With this agreement in place, half of the fee will be payable upfront as security and the remainder will be payable within 14 days of the client receiving the edited file.
For non-UK clients, all projects fees are payable in advance.
We accept payment by cheque, direct bank transfer and PayPal. Please note that clients paying by PayPal are liable for the PayPal charge on the transaction and clients paying by international bank transfer are liable for any bank charges.
Work commences once payment has cleared.
Do you format the text?
My expertise is in writing, not design. As standard, therefore, I don’t work on the design – the look, style or layout – of a document. I will correct or comment on an obvious deviation from the overarching style, and I will ensure consistent heading levels.
Do you edit/proofread for clients worldwide?
I proofread and edit for clients all over the world, in either UK or US English, depending on preference.
